What is a Landscape Ontario Commodity Group?
Your Voice, Your Horticultural Industry Voice of Advocacy…
Landscape Ontario is a large and diverse trade association representing a wide range of companies in the horticultural industry. The very specific needs of each industry sector are dealt with through the association's commodity group (industry sector) structure. These include:
Determined by the nature of their business, each member of Landscape Ontario is categorized under one or more of these commodity groups.
|
• Landscape Contractors
• Wholesale Nursery Growers
• Lawn Care Companies
• Irrigation Contractors
• Grounds Management Contractors
• Retail Garden Centres
• Landscape Designers
• Interiorscapers
|
|
And… there are no additional membership fees to belong to a commodity group
.
Each of these groups governs their affairs somewhat differently, depending on their specific needs, but the basic structure is similar to each. A committee (board) made up of company owners or representatives meets regularly to discuss and deal with issues of particular concern to that industry sector. Sometimes this means dealing with matters that may have immediate, often negative impact on the industry. Government proposals for harmful new legislation or activist campaigns resulting in unfavoriable press are just a few examples.
Just as often, it's the responsibility of each commodity group board to identify those projects or initiatives that will help to improve the overall business environment for their industry sector. Because issues and needs change regularly, so does the scope and mandate of each commodity group board.
